Armistice Day
The Great War [World War One in 1918] ended when the peace
treaty was signed on the 11th of November 1918 at 11 am.
Armistice day is celebrated on the closest Saturday to the 11th
of November.
The main race is the Peace Shield which is held at the end of
the day and it is 220 yards.
Returned solders and teachers made athletics day happen
In the 1960s they changed it to the closest Saturday so
parents can come along.
