Year Seven and Eight Trip
Reflection
We went to Orana Wildlife Park in Christchurch and found heaps of adorable animals. On the picture above are Otters and they are really cute. Before we went to Orana Park I didn't know much about the Otter. Then I learnt that they are half water animals and half ground animals and they have really sharp teeth and claws. They are one of my favourite animals in the world.
Penguins at the International Antarctic Center
I learnt that the Little Blue penguins are the smallest penguins in the world.
I thought it was good that they are rescuing penguins that would not survive on their own in the wild.

Christchurch Camp
At the front of the Cathedral you
can see an eagle which came from the old Cathedral, the people managed to get
it out. Did you also know that the walls in the cardboard Cathedral are
containers? Also the Arch on it isn't cardboard its wood but it looks like
cardboard. The seats in the Cardboard Cathedral are made out of heaps of bits
of cardboard.

Anzac posters
Room 4 went to some war memorials because wanted to make some think for the people how died in world war 1.it was so fun because you had to go through different web sites and instead of writing a hole lot of information on a peace of paper we just copped and pasted it on Microsoft word.
Anzac Poster
Room 4 has been making posters for Anzac day and they are going to the Library so everybody can see them and see some information about them. It has been really exciting and practically a journey to me because we had to write down information, look at web site's, go place's and put things into sentences. The bad thing about this was that we had to put them into sentences and that sound's quite easy but it really wasn't so we had to put in a lot of effort but in the end the posters looked great. So over all I really enjoyed this journey.

Sumdog
Room 4 did the Sumdog Contest which was a mix of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and word problems.
The Sumdog Contest runs for seven days and each student has 1000 questions each to answer and you have to get as many questions right as you can out of the 1000 questions.
If you get some questions wrong you get put down on the scoreboard and if you get more right out of 1000 you get put up on the scoreboard. The school with the best score wins the contest. The school that gets the most points wins the contest gets a certificate for winning.

So Miss Mansell will be going there in term 2 to help out and then she'll be coming back. The place that she'll be going in Peru is Andahuaylas that's an hour away from Lima in Peru.

Posters For Anzac Day
Room Four has made awesome posters about Anzac day and World War One. We went to three different memorials so that we could write down three names from world war one, we went to Mapua, Motueka. We also went to lower Moutere but the names weren't there because they got moved to Upper Moutere. We then looked up information about the certain person that you chose and made an awesome poster and we also had to find out where the person we chose got buried and a map of where it is. The posters will be put up in the Motueka and Mapua library.

Anzac posters
Room 4 are doing posters about Anzacs. We went to the Motueka, Lower Moutre, and Mapua memorials and found a few names to write about. We got information about the people from the cenotaph, Anzac.com, and CWCG. We found information and we are writing about them. We are writing about their personal information, their family, their information about the war: their rank and other facts, and their burial. Once we have finished, we will probably put them on the walls of the Motueka library.
One of the memorials. |
This term room 4 did a sports competition called Summer Sports. We did three sports which were Touch,Volley ball and Ultimate Frisbee. Volleyball was the most fun for me. We (the competitive team) won all our games except one. Everyone tried as hard as they could even though sometimes they would not get it over the net. I think it was fun serving and hitting it back. The school also had a social team they did quite well but they had very good sportsmanship.
Memorial Visit
In term 1 room 4 was learning about World War 1 because Anzac Day is coming up. So we decided to go for a little trip what we did is we planed to go to three different memorials. The first memorial we went to was in Mapua we each got three different names the names I got were C.J Harvey T.L Field and F.G McKee. The second memorial we went to was in Lower Motere. But, this was very strange when we figured out when we got there that there was NO NAMES! That was very strange. so we went to the Motueka memorial luckily there was some names I picked three but only used 1 I used R Lynch. When we got back to school we had to figure out where the Lower Motere Memorial got moved to.

Painting.
On Friday 11th of April a lady came to take Mr Matthews place so she did art with us. She taught us how to blend the colours and then we waited for the paintings to dry. After all of our paintings had dried we drew some birds on a piece of paper then painted it on our paintings.
Bird Paintings
On Friday a lady called Mrs Deck came onto our classroom. We did bird paintings with different coulers and shades. It was really fun.
Art
On Friday Mrs Deck came in with us to do Art. First we covered our page with different colours then we blended it in from the middle is light and from the side it was dark.We then let it dry and then we drew pretty black birds on the page to make it look like they are flying away or flying to you. Here is my painting.
swimming sports
This term, Room 4 has been practising swimming sports. They include over arm ( freestyle), back stroke, and breast stroke. We only had two weeks of practise and then we had to compete against 5 other schools. The school that we race at was upper Moutre.
Tuesday, 11 March 2014
Today room 4 went swimming at St Peter Chanel in our pyjamas and practised our life saving. First we had to get into out of our pyjamas in the water then we had to make knots at the bottom of the legging. Then we had to flick them in the air and air filled in the pants like a flotation device. Then we would hold the ends of our pyjamas so the air cant get out and make a huddle so we would keep warm
At school we have been learning about chemical changes from raw to cooked, and when your finished your
cooking you can decorate it. We have been doing a chocolate day this is a picture of one of the things.ingredients: flour, sugar, vanilla essence, coco, baking soda, butter, milk, eggs and hot water.
Physical Change
This is my physical change for our chocolate day. We had to explain what physical change happened to the food we brought and the food I brought was chocolate brownies.
Today Room 4 is having a chocolate day and we are having it because our science topic is what can we create with chemical change so here is some photos of the chemical change and some ingredients. When the cake was not cooked it looked like melted thick chocolate but now that it is cooked it looks like a big brown crackly chocolate muffin.
At school we have been learning about chemical change this is a recipe of chocolate brownies
ingredients: flour, sugar, salt, coco powder, baking powder, water, sun flower oil and vanilla essence.
Physical Change
Tuesday the 11th of March Room 4 had a chocolate day for Physical Change. We were seeing how the raw ingredients change to the cooked product. We had to draw a picture of all the raw ingredients on a page and describe the difference between raw and cooked.

Swimming
Today for swimming we did survival and for survival we had to wear our PJs over our togs and we had to take our PJ's off without touching the bottom. It was really hard.
Here are some cool pictures of us swimming.
Here are some cool pictures of us swimming.
We have been doing swimming at St Peter Channel today we where doing survival skills we had to where pyjamas and then we had togs on underneath. First we had to take our pyjama top off then let it sink, then we took our pyjama pants off then tie knots in the feet holes. Then we threw them up to try and fill them up with air and use them as a floating devise. We had 4 people in the water at a time. It was fun and funny at the same time seriously swimming in pyjamas. :) :) :) :) :)
Water Survival
Today Room 4 had a Water Survival day. We learnt how it feels when you fall off a boat in the middle of the sea. We had to wear our PJs over top of our togs. We all went in groups of four. We got four people around us with noddles so we could grab on to it if we were having trouble. Our group had to line up at the end of the pool. When our teacher says jumped we have to jump into the pool and take our top of first without out touching the bottom of the pool. After that we had to take our pants of and tie to knots at the end of both legs to chuck up in the air to catch air. When we have air in it we had to use it as a floatation device.
When everyone has a floatation device we huddle up and hold on to each other.
To make a flotation device you need to take off your PJ 's (you have togs under). After you have taken your pants you can tie knots in the end of your pants. The last is to go up out of the water and quickly pull down and fill your pants up with air and that is how to make your floating device :)
Swimming Survival
Room four went to St Peter Chanel for a swimming demonstration on how to survive if you are stranded in the water. First of all you have to get your top off and then your pants to get you lighter then tie a not at the end of your pants so that when you throw it up in the air it should get air and trap it so that you have air to keep yourself afloat. After you have done that you will be kept afloat. That was a fun day.
