Updates :D

SPRING FLING!

On the 22nd of September we will be holding an Spring Fling. This will be made up of heaps of stalls holding food, books, games, toys and heaps more. The money collected will be given to the school so that Room 4 can get new computers and to get more tools and stationary.
The parents have been giving second hand stuff to sell at the Spring Fling, also some of the parents are running stalls and helping out. This year the stalls will be going around the whole field and there will be a kids corner for all the little kids who like to play with toys and eat lollies.
There will be rides and raffle tickets, for the  people who are helping with the hosting of the Spring Fling will be wearing red or white tops with blue jeans, these will be dotted all around the place.
This will be alot of fun to go to and the kids cant wait to get out and explore their school in a different way from just going to school and working. There have been flyers handed out and we are expecting a big turn up, we handed out 10 flyers to every family to hand out to their friends and neighbors.

ROOM 4's WRITING!

This past week we have been doing writing on the three little pigs and doing court jury, of who was the guilty party for either attempted murder, murder and and damage of property. Here is a example:
There were 3 helpless pigs. They had just finished their houses of straw, twigs and bricks, now these pigs were running from the dreaded wolf. Who had a scar on his left eye and peircing green eyes that haunts ones mind for days. An who's fur was a gloomy grey, a fight scar is on his right side neck and a gold earing hangs from the top of his left ear, he limps around. He's about 6ft 3 and when nerbeous he is silent as if you could hear his heart beat. He wears a dark blue top and black shorts. He also has pointy sharp ears as sharp as knifes.
He has been found guilty for violence and damage of property. The wold tried to eat the 3 pigs ( violence ) and blew the two houses of pig one and two which were found murdered not far from their homes with grey tuffs of fur in the bulky mud.

Cross-country!!!!!

On Friday 20th Tasman Bay Christian School got on the bus at around 1:00pm and headed down to the Domain. At half way we got out and a senior buddied up with a little kid and hold hands along the road. As we entered in the Domain Tasman School kids welcomed us. Judy Farthe ( parent of three of the kids that went to Tasman ) stood up on the haybails and welcomed us again and said thank-you for participating. The course was start at the cones and run to the tree, from there we crossed the bank and went through the creek in which many were not happy. Then it was under the tunnel and through to the other side, over a fence and up a steep hill through a gate and down again, through the tunnel again and then over the haystack and into the finish ( for 5-7 year olds ) other than that it was another lap for the 8-13 year olds. The 5-7 year old girls went first, our first girl to cross the finish was Bella of Tasman Bay Christian, then the 5-7 year old boys in which and Jonti came first as well. The 8-13 year old boys went and Fletcher of Tasman Bay Christian came first out of all the boys and his age group. 8-13 year old girls was Risi of as you can guess it was our school coming first in her age group and the whole race. After we went to Tasman School and played with them, then we got called in for assembly and they played a song on the recorders and then it was the certificates. We sayed goodbye afterwards and walked down the drive to the buses from there the took us strait home.  What a great but tiring day!

Last Day with Harold

Today on May 4th we went to see Harold for the last time this year. We learnt about drugs and cigarettes and how they can be really bad for your body. We were able to ask questions and put the answers on the wall next to the question. Yesterday we watched a clip about a girl called Ana and how her " friends " used peer pressure to make her do stuff, notice the word " peer " does not mean the fruit pear it means they say things that allow pressure to seep through and make someone think that they are uncool or that they are missing out. Anyway back to the story, So Ana's friends used pear pressure to make her think she was missing out. So Ana and her friends went to the skate park and Ana found out that her friends were smoking, YUCK! So yeah she had a choice to make, not to do it, or, to do it... she did it and later on at the disco she stopped because someone told her what smoking could do and how it could really harm you. That was the topic making choices.
Today's lesson was about our health and how a normal person who does not smoke has a nice clean liver but when you smoke you get tar on your liver and it goes all black creating cancer. We also learnt about some of the drinks we have and how they contain drugs and nicotine. All of these things are bad for you and I have to say that if you want to smoke or drink alcohol then you should be aware of the dangers and try not to smoke. Drinking can be just as bad because instead of drinking healthy water you drink caffeine or any other drugs that can be mixed in with your drink. This makes your brain say " We need to start getting messages through faster." After dealing with this, your body starts to go down rapidly and you feel the urge to drink more caffeine. At the end we got to see Harold, he sung us a song and then we left saying goodbye to Harold for the rest of the year.

The highlights of term 1

The highlights of term 1 was the new aspects of maths, reading and writting.

Maths: We learn't more by going online and going on mathletics or e- asstle other than that it was back to the paper reading out of books and then writting them down.

Reading: More e- asttle tests but with a different subject, reading in groups and just plain silent reading, also awesome atlas and news paper in education.

Writting: We have been doing post cards and letters, having fun and sharing our ideas is the main focus, also to try your best!

My Strengths

This is what has been written on my PLP ( personal learning plans)

Collaborator-  like to work in teams.-  (play a game and explain to them what teams are) ( endurance in each other and themselves working as a team)

I had Sophie and she did very well with passing a netball. She was able to teach Finn to throw and catch the ball. And Finn was able to teach her how to high jump. 13.3.12

Coach-  You are a natural teacher—(grab a  soccer ball and do kicks and passes with it)

Soccer:   I explained to Hinia and Koruake how to kick and shoot goals with soccer.

Jamie was able to teach Hinia and Koruake how to pass a ball. And the they were able to teach her soccer and how to kick and shoot a ball into the goal. 28.3.12

Review: Both of my goals were a success the kid I was taking for both of them did very well and was able to take another kid and teach them what they had just learnt and the other kid was able to teach them

The awesome experience at Wellington Zoo!

A zoo staff by the name of Hilary had come to teach us about the animals and the way we can help the environment. I enjoyed learning about all the animals such as, the hedgehog, rats, lizards and the different kinds of fish, and the Tiger skin was awesome! Thank you also for the wonderful experience to walk around the life inhabited area full of wonderful and amazing creatures.
The animals were all so beautiful and well behaved while we were there and posed for the camera wonderfully.

I enjoyed learning facts about animals and the way we can destroy their life by cutting down a few trees in their habitat. I also learned a sign that shows that it does not come from an animal’s habitat but has been planted down so that when fully grown it can be cut down without hurting any animals that live there.

The otters where wonderful swimmers and posers at the same time. The baboons where very interesting and the baby’s where so cute!

The African Village was amazing! The drums where so detailed and the place where they cook and sleep was also very interesting. The goats in the village where very lively and so where the chickens that went clucking around the area.

All the animals where well behaved and looked very smart and intelligent as I am sure they acted.

WINTER SPORTS
Tuesday the 29th was a chaotic day for all as kids bustled around buzzing with excitement. Tasman schools from all around were all getting ready for a day of winter sports. The sports that Tasman Bay Christian competed in involved netball and soccer.
The weather turned out wonderful with a sunny sky. All schools were enjoying the sun before they all had to run onto the courts or fields. Soon teams were huffing and puffing around already exhausted before lunch break.
The schools that competed in winter sports were TBCS, Riwaka, Mapua, Parklands, Upper Moutere, Tasman, Lower Moutere, Brooklyn, St Peter Chanel and Motueka South. All the schools competed brilliantly.
The end result in netball was that Parklands won 1st prize and Mapua, Upper Moutere and St Peter Chanel came 2nd in a 3 way tie. The day was fun for everybody but by the end of the day everyone was glad to go home.

Athletics in the field!

The hand bell rang and the top fastest kids in our school went on the bus at 1:00pm and headed to Upper Moutere to compete in the Athletics cups. Such activities were... the junior ball relay, the senior ball relay, junoir batton relay, senior batton relay, fastest girl and the fastest in the school. Miss Aldridge was talking to us about since we are a Christian School we should show our behavior in the way we act. As we headed to the field they people holding the Athletics day talk to us and then asked us to come to the front of the building to show our respects to those who went to the war and lost their lifes to free our country and also to sing the National Anthem. Children from diffrent schools went and put flowers around a statue and then stepped back and for a couple of secounds in silence bowing their head to remember them before going back into the crowd. After the tNational Anthem we walked back to the field and the sports began. First up was the junior ball relay and we came 3rd in that, then there was the senior ball relay and we also came 3rd in that. Couple of minutes later the junior ball relay was on and they did really good coming 4th as for the senior batton relay we came 3rd again!!
Fastest girl was Risi coming a whopping 4th place! Go Risi! And the for the fastest in the school was Fletcher who ran really well and came 3rd!!
Over all we came 3rd in the whole thing!!
On the way back Miss Aldridge told us how well we all did. Nexts year I'm hoping to do the whole Athletics not just the ones for the cups.

Rainy Day

 Image001

The sky was dark and gloomy; the sky was covered in ash-like colour. As the school children sat inside listening to the rain, they were doing their work but they had other things on their mind.
“Psst, Hope,” whispered Shanara.
“Yes?”
“It’s raining really hard.”
“I know, I really wish we could go outside and play in the rain,” Hope said.
“So do I!”
“If I was in the rain,” said Shanara, “I would go stand right dead smack in the middle of the field and poke my tongue out. I would play and play until I was covered in wet dripping puddles. Oh, how I wish to play in the rain.”
If I was in the rain, I would run and run until the teacher called us in,” said Hope. “The rain looks so tempting to play in.”

Writing

This Term we have been looking at paragraphs and sentence starters. Here is a story I wrote:

Emily:
This is how it happened.  Me, Trisha and Sam were at our tree house by the sands of the beach. The wind was picking up and we could hear the waves come up the shore, only to go back to the sea again.
Suddenly a tree fell down, crashing smack down the middle of our tree house. A minute later we realised that Sam was lying on the ground under the fallen tree.    She lay there not moving, her right leg was broken.  We called 111 and soon after an ambulance arrived to take Sam to the hospital.

Trisha:
We were playing a game of monopoly; the wind was whistling through the cracks in our bamboo tree house.  I imagined the crystal sea waters swallowing the sand urging little kids to go into the waters.
Suddenly there was a flash of light as the walls caved in on us. Some minutes later we saw Sam lying smack down on the hard floor.   She was bleeding all over and not moving.  Emily called the ambulance to take her to hospital.

Sam:
I was playing with my friends in our little tree house that hung above the rushing waters.   I have always enjoyed spending time with my friends.
All of a sudden something hit us and I must have got knocked out because I don’t remember anything except waking up to a St John’s person trying to keep me breathing.
Now I am in the hospital and my leg is throbbing with pain.  I think I might faint.  Ahh.

I hoped you liked that story.
Now just yesterday on the 19th of May we had to do a sentence when the first sentence had 1 word in it the second had 2 words in it the third had 3 words in it the forth had 4 words in it and the fifth had 5 words in it. Here is an example:
Cold. Spooky creaks. Echoes downwards falling. Down the musty basement. Smells seep through the doors.
Here are sentence starters:
1.     The little girl on the side of the road wept bitterly.
2.     The forbidden door creaked and a tall shadowy figure stood in the hallway.
