First Day of School

First Day of School
It was the first day of school. The muted morning light was still new in the sky when I woke up. For the past few weeks I had been so excited bout starting school at West Hill High but this morning I didn’t feel like even getting up. As I was lying in bed trying to come up with a excuse for not going I realized that there was absolutely no way mum’s gonna let me out this one. I sat up in bed and pulled my warm woollen blankets off me and felt the stinging coldness in the house, the new house was freezing, especially this time of the year and my room didn’t get any sun during the day. I stared out the window at the thick forest just outside at I wriggled into my new school uniform. It was hideous, the way it hanged on my like a curtain and the yellow of the top made my skin look pale.
Mum had offered to take me to school in the car but I needed some fresh air so I decided to walk. I knotted my long red hair into a shift bun, grabbed my school bag and headed out the door.
Early morning fog blanketed the world in blue-ish grey as I walked across our yard towards the forest.
TO BE CONTINUED…. MAYBE :P

Making a Poster

This term our schools main focus is 'God is Faithful'. Mr Mathews asked me and a couple of other people to create a poster that includes, 'The big idea - God is Faithful', 'The Key Understanding - Gods Faithfulness is worth celebrating', and 'The Focus Question - What can we celebrate about God?'. So me, Tori, Asher and Risi packed on the task of making the poster.

At first we had to decide on the layout, fonts and colours we're going to use. I said we should write the 'big idea' in block letters, Risi then said it should be written in an arch. Tori decided on the colours and choose a light blue backround with yellow, orange, red and green lettering. We all agreed that our plan looked great and that we should start on the poster.

As we created our poster it was looking better and better, we were really happy with our god work.
When we finished, we all took a step back to look at our poster and it was amazing. Iwas quite surprised that I was part of making it! We were all pleased with it and showed Mr. Mathews and he loved it. We then decided we should put it up on the back wall of the classroom.

I really enjoyed making the poster and I am proud of it. :)

1st Person Narrative

Narrative Writing
The last couple of weeks we have been doing a lot of narrative writing.  Here is a story I wrote.
Here we focused on 1st person point of view.
The Accident.
“What’s all the commotion about?” I asked as I came puffing back from the cross country run.
“There’s been a crash!” Shanara told me anxiously.
Without hesitation I ran to the end of the road where everyone was crowding around. That’s when I heard the first police siren heading this way. Shortly after I heard the ambulances I pushed myself through the crowd to see what exactly had happened. There it was, a truck and a car collided head on and another car must have crashed into them!
“Okay, Room 4, lets head back to class so we could give the police and ambulance some space,” came Mrs. Rolls’s voice over all the noise.
The first police car pulled up on the side of the road. I took one last look at the scene.  I saw a woman in a car wedged between her steering wheel and the seat. I turned around and we all headed back to class.

Something That Inspired Me

I have been playing guitar for about a year now and I think I’m doing pretty well so far.  I really enjoy playing, but sometimes I just feel like giving up when things feel impossible.
Anyway Mrs. Rolls put this YouTube video on our blog of this guy playing guitar.  I found it very inspirational.  So this guy that’s still quite young is playing a master piece and he didn’t even have lessons!  When I watch this video I just go WOW.  It inspires me not to give up and shows me persistence (which I will need a lot of if I want to be that good one day!)
So have a look and you will see what I mean!

The 3 Little Pigs

Today we had to write a fairytale of our choosing.  Focusing on our punctuation, we only had to write a conversation between our characters.   My story is about The 3 Little Pigs discussing their homes.
The 3 Little Pigs
The three little pigs were sitting around the fire.
“How can I make my house wolf proof?”  asked Piggy Oink.
“I don’t know, Oink” said Piggy Bob.  “Straw is not a very strong foundation to protect you from The Big Bad Wolf you know.”
“I know!” said Piggy Snort. “I can give you some twigs to build a stronger house.”
“I don’t think that’s such a good idea, Snort. Your house didn’t stand very long when The Big Bad Wolf blew it in,” said Bob
“You’re right, maybe we should build our houses from brick like your,” said Snort.
“Okay, but you’ll have to do all the work yourself!” Bob warned
“I don’t want to do all the work!” complained Oink.
“Well you’ll just have to if you want to be protected from The Big Bad Wolf,” said Bob
“Oh, I guess I’ll just have to then,” Oink said, disappointed.
“We will start tomorrow!” Snort said, feeling rather  optimistic.

Rainbow Mufti Day

On Friday 18th March TBCS had a RAINBOW mufti day with all the colours of the RAINBOW, minus yellow, and adding pink.  I dressed in purple.

After lunch we went outside and made a RAINBOW, ironically on the ground.

It was lots of fun. Yay!  Go rainbows!

Abby

On Friday 18th March TBCS had a RAINBOW themed mufti day.  We all dressed in a single RAINBOW colour.

After lunch everyone went outside and stood in a RAINBOW shape according to our colour and we took photos.

All the money raised today was for our sponsored World Vision child, Helen.  We raised $102!

Buddies!

Yesterday Room 4 and Room 2 did some buddy reading in the library.  We had loads of fun together and Mrs Rolls loved watching us sharing books with our buddies.
Here is what we thought:
“The funny little thing was that Abby was partnered with Abby.”  Abby
“My little buddy was cute and cuddly.  We read 5 books!  She was very respectful.”  Shanara
“I enjoyed listening to my little buddy, Mia, read.”  Tangiwai
“Me and my buddy found out that all pigs are beautiful.” Karene
“I enjoyed reading with little Caleb because he actually listened and he liked The Incredibles too.”  Jayden
“It was hard to read when Jack kept giggling at the funny sea animals that kept eating each other.  I think he really enjoyed the book!” Ethan

More Awesome Things - The Old Pen Problem

The other day I was sitting in my room (which was very messy) practicing my guitar. When I got to doing my theory I took one of my pens lying on my bed side table, it didn’t work.  I took the other pen and it still didn’t work! So, after about 5 min. of scribbling on a piece of paper, I gave up and started to clean my room.
As I picked up the first heap of clothes and stuff something poked me on my hand. It was a pen! I tried it out on the sheet of paper, which was already ripped from scribbling annoying pens all over it and instead of making pen lines just left it with rips on. Guess what, it worked!

Awesome Thing - Cloud Watching

There is something about just lying in a plain of green grass guiding your hand across the hairy surface. Staring up at those white funny shaped stuff we call clouds that lets your mind drift into a whole other world, a world where there are weird looking dragons battling against a school of fish that changes in to a shark right before the dragon changes into a cute bear. A heart floating in the blue sky all alone breaking apart piece by piece.

Swimming Fun

Last Friday Room 3 and 4 went survival swimming in pyjamas and clothes at St Peter Chanel.  It was fun.  We had a ball.

We discovered that it was extremely difficult to swim in heavy clothes.

Here are some photos to show you what we did:

“I’m flying”

We were talking about safety swimming…some of us got an F

This is what happens if you don’t watch the kids!

For the People of Christchurch

We wanted to let the people of Christchurch know that we are thinking of them and praying for them, so we decided to each use our strengths to encourage them.

From Karene

Dear Christchurch,

We hope that all the people who are trapped will be able to get out alive and that there will be no more earthquakes, so you can clean up the city.

We have heard about the robberies and feel sorry for you because you do not deserve any more grief than there already is.

From Hannah

May God give you "the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of despair".  Isaiah 61:3

                            Dear Lord Jesus
Christchurch has just had a very bad experience of a 6.3Earthquake. May you please help all the family and friends that are trapped in buildings and I pray that Christchurch will stop having earthquakes.
May you please bless everybody living in Christchurch and that you will heal all the people that are in hospital from having buildings
collapse on them.

Dear People of Christchurch,
I have heard about the earthquake. I’m glad people from different countries are helping people get out of rubble.
I’m very sorry if you have loved ones who have died or are still trapped.
I’m sorry for some of you that have lost your jobs in Christchurch I’m sorry if you got hurt in the earthquake.
We are thinking of you praying for you and raising money for you.
